Custom Yacht Configurators for Brands and Dealers
1 October 2025A Spreadsheet Can Take a Brokerage Only So Far
12 January 2026Long before a yacht could be opened in a browser tab, brokers needed ways to share vessel information and compare boats. Software did not create that need. It changed the speed, reach and form of the information exchanged.
One useful starting point is the printed price guide. BUC describes its used boat price guides as dating from 1961. Those guides belong to the history of marine information services, rather than the history of websites. They show that organising vessel information was a business in its own right before online search became familiar.
The listing gained a much larger audience
YachtWorld records its founding in 1995. An online marketplace gave a listing a place where buyers could search across brokerage inventory. A vessel description was no longer only a document passed between people; it could become a discoverable record.
That shift introduced another responsibility. Once information appears in several places, somebody has to keep those copies consistent. A public listing, an internal sales record and a document sent to a client may concern the same yacht while serving different purposes.
Finding boats and managing the conversation came together
Modern marine platforms bring several of those activities into one workspace. For example, Boats Group describes BoatWizard as covering inventory, leads and reporting. This is a product example, not a claim that every brokerage uses the same system or follows the same development path.
The broader lesson is the connection between the listing and the work that follows it. A buyer finds a yacht, asks a question and expects the broker to understand which vessel they mean. The team then needs a record of the conversation and a clear next action.
The next change is also an operational choice
Looking back at this progression is useful when planning new software. Publishing inventory is one task. Assigning an enquiry, preserving buyer preferences and producing an approved brochure are others. A project should decide how those tasks relate before choosing its screens.
At Bilişim Atölyesi, our custom yacht software work addresses CRM, listing and PDF workflows. The history offers context, but your own team’s handovers are the better guide to what should be built next.
