Nautique Registry Brings Yacht Registration into One Workflow
14 October 2026The finishing order is clear. The harder question is where the difference emerged. Seconds lost at the start, speed carried through a mark rounding or recovery after a manoeuvre can all influence the result.
Developed by Bilişim Atölyesi, Sail Metric considers GPS tracks alongside time, speed, course geometry and suitable wind information. The post-race review goes beyond a line on a map.
Is speed enough?
“How fast was the boat?” is only the beginning. Two more questions help put speed into context:
- On which leg and point of sail was speed maintained?
- Did a shorter route help, or did greater speed compensate for a longer one?
Sail Metric’s leg and route comparisons help coaches examine these differences within the same recording.
What happened at the start?
A defined start line and start time provide a reference for the GPS track. Crossing time, timing relative to the signal, crossing speed and position along the line can be reviewed together.
These are technical analysis indicators. They do not replace an official early-start ruling or a jury decision.
The manoeuvre ends. The analysis continues.
Counting tacks and gybes does not explain their effect. Entry speed, minimum speed and time to recover reference speed matter together. Estimated distance loss can add another perspective.
The aim is to identify differences between comparable manoeuvres and decide what to work on in the next session.
Wind changes the comparison
When suitable environmental data is available, upwind, reaching and downwind legs can be separated. Indicators such as TWA and VMG can then be examined in context.
Recorded wind measurements and forecast models remain separate data sources. The source and recording quality affect how results should be interpreted.
From analysis to the next session
File upload, analysis, comparison, coach review and field validation form a connected workflow. Disciplines such as ILCA, 470, iQFOiL and Formula Kite are considered through class-specific analysis profiles.
Sail Metric brings together our software development work and experience in sailing. We can review your team’s data sources and analysis needs together.
