REMOTE BOAT MONITORING
Wherever your boat is, its data is in your pocket
Boat Metric is a remote boat monitoring system developed by Bilişim Atölyesi. Using hardware we designed ourselves, it reads the engine, battery, fuel, position and sensor data flowing on the boat’s NMEA 2000 network, processes it and shows it live in a mobile app.
You don’t need to be on board to know what is happening while your boat is moored in the marina, at anchor or laid up for the winter. You can check from your phone whether the engine is running, how the batteries are doing, how much fuel is left in the tank and exactly where the boat is, as if you were standing right next to it.
What can you monitor?
- Whether the engine is running, its RPM, engine hours, coolant temperature and oil pressure
- Battery voltage and state of charge
- Fuel, fresh water and waste water tank levels
- The boat’s live position, course and speed
- Engine trim angle, plus the boat’s roll and pitch
- Depth, wind and data published by other NMEA 2000 devices on board
Which data is available depends on the devices on your boat’s network. Before installation we review the boat’s existing electronics together and agree on which data can be read.
You decide the alerts
Boat Metric doesn’t just display data; it tells you when something important happens. You decide which situations trigger a notification. For example:
- When the engine is started or stopped
- When battery voltage drops below the level you set
- When the boat leaves the area you define, for example the marina or its anchorage
- When fuel or water drops below a set threshold
- When engine temperature or oil pressure moves outside its normal range
So you don’t have to keep checking your phone. The system stays quiet while everything is fine and alerts you when something needs your attention.
How does it work?
On modern boats, engines, battery monitors, tank sensors, GPS and navigation instruments all speak the same language. That language is called NMEA 2000. The Boat Metric device joins this network through a standard connection and reads the messages published by the devices on it.
The device turns raw messages into meaningful values, tells each engine, battery and tank apart, and sends the data securely to the cloud over the boat’s internet connection. The mobile app shows the data live and sends notifications based on the rules you set.
For those curious about the technical details, we explain how an NMEA 2000 network works in a separate Tech Note.
Why our own hardware?
Because we develop the hardware and software together, we can read data from different brands of engines and devices in a single standard and adapt the system to each boat’s equipment. We know which message on the boat every value on the screen comes from, and we can quickly add a new sensor or a new type of alert when needed.
Who is it for?
- Boat owners who want to keep an eye on their boat remotely
- Captains and yacht managers responsible for more than one boat
- Charter operators who want to see the status of their fleet on one screen
- Dealers and service teams who want to anticipate maintenance and service needs on their customers’ boats
Bring Boat Metric to your boat
Let’s talk about the existing equipment on your boat or fleet and decide together which data you can monitor and which alerts will be useful to you.
